Welcome to high school!
Or not. However you slice it, high school is never exactly a picnic, is it? The drama, the lies, the homework...it's enough to drive anyone crazy. And here at Lark Springs High, the drama is never hard to find among the students. Of course, besides the obvious clashes, there's much more hidden within the walls of this school, nestled in the heart of New England. For years, the weather has been odd. Constant rain, bitter chill, and violent snowstorms. It was enough to lead some of the older citizens to move away, but the first day at the local High School was as full as ever. Unlike the elderly, the students could stand up to a little bad weather.
Everyone's heard the stories, the legends. Witches and Warlocks, faeries, magic...but nothing about that is true, of course. Witches and Warlocks don't exist, the witch hunts were all hoaxes. There wasn't a real witch among the convicted, because, of course, magic doesn't exist in the orderly, sensible town of Newport, Vermont. This is New England, not "The Magic Academy". The students are all perfectly normal, although they all have drama in their lives, and stories to tell.
But...what if magic was real?
What if, at the school, some of the students were discovering that they had magical abilities?
Well, what if is exactly what's happened here. Stella, Vivian, and Cassidy were ready to start their Sophomore year at Lark Springs High. The triplets, though they were very different, got along well, and could even deal with having their younger sister Ivy starting her freshmen year there as well. After all, they weren't bottom of the food chain anymore. Now that they had moved up a bit, they'd be able to deal with the dramas. Or, so they thought. As the year started, they began to notice abnormalities. Strange occurrences. In short, they had magical abilities. They were confused and scared of what they should do, and started to feel very alone.
But they weren't alone at their school. At Lark Springs High, there are actually a lot of witches...and warlocks. Suddenly, everywhere they looked, the triplets were seeing magic around their seemingly normal school. Some had known about it before they had, some were still discovering it, but almost instinctively, they hid it carefully. It seemed like an unspoken rule, to keep magic a secret from normal people, even your own family. Of course, it turned out that their younger sister had developing powers as well. But despite the new revelations, it was shaping up to be a good year for all of the students. But of course, that couldn't last at a high school. In fact, it didn't last through the first week.
Murder.
That one little word that can cause so much devastation. The body of a girl was found in the center of the gym, lying in a pool of blood. Naturally, the rumors flew, and tensions mounted. This was one of the reasons people moved to smaller towns. Murders were a problem for places like New York or Seattle, big cities. Not small towns with one high school and a lot of nosy neighbors. But the murder was only the tip of the iceberg for the school...
The next week, new students start classes at the high school. These so-called California transfers show a lot of interest in learning more about everything in the school, particularly some of its students. Something about these new students seems off to the local magical population. And for a good reason. Though none of them know, the new students are really Hunters, posing as students to try to weed out the abnormally large population of Witches and Warlocks in the school. These teens have been trained to hunt all manner of supernatural beings, and they have the tools to back up their attitudes.
Danger mounts in the school as magical mishaps lead the unsuspecting witches and warlocks closer and closer to danger. The student population seems unaware of the peril lurking in the hallways, but a few are drifting dangerously close to the secret. What if magic is discovered? The one who discovers it might try to take advantage of the power, or they might try to reveal it to the world. If they're not killed first. But that's a rather large 'if', and there are more problems on the way.
The large number of witches and warlocks are giving off a lot of magical energy, and that energy is attracting more supernatural beings to Newport. Witches and warlocks are not the most adept at camouflage, and they're not the ones with the most physical strength, and they don't live the longest. However, they do posses the strongest magical energy, and their shorter lifespans are the result of early deaths due to competition. Members of a family of faeries known as the Kel clan first arrived because the girl who was killed, Evelyn Kerston, was half-fey, but they only opened the floodgates. Soon a trio of vampires showed up, and a pair of werewolves who had no idea why they had moved to Newport.
These very different creatures all want to kill the witches and warlocks – and each other – for the magical energy. This is only a small sample of the secret age-old power struggle of the supernatural, every race seeking domination at the expense of the others, with the Hunters just trying to kill them all. And now this ancient struggle has entered into the modern world, with Newport in the center of it. Who would have thought that a few small-town kids would be the first ripples to burst the floodgates?
However it ends this time, there will be drama. There will be magic. History will be made, secretly.
