General
Full Name: Helga Susanne Hufflepuff (née Faust)
Nickname(s): Ele, Ellie, Helly
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Birthday: 24 September
Subject: Household
Wand: 6 1/4 inches of Willow with three unicorn tail hairs
Pet: a small greyhound, Gwenydd
Personality
Positive Attributes: Helga's most outstanding quality is her sweetness. She never has a mean word for anyone (except maybe for Slytherin, whom she argues with quite frequently) unless provoked and is a very accepting, friendly individual. She is fiercely loyal and sees the good in everyone. She is also an understanding, nurturing, almost motherly figure. She feels a willingness and need to protect others, especially her friends. She is also a determined, albeit a little stubborn, hard worker.
Negative Attributes: Because of her ability to see the good in everyone, Helga often ignores the malignant part of people's personalities. She often lets her emotions get in the way of making a just judgment and can easily be stepped on when doing so. She is also rather outspoken for a lady, atypical for the role of female in her time. However, her blind faith is her downfall.
Strengths:
Weaknesses:
Greatest Fear: Helga's greatest fear is that the Pureblood wizards will forget that Muggles are humans too, just like they are, even though they can't wield a wand and use magic.
Life Goal: Though she has a desire to settle down, marry her true love (when she finds him), and have children, Helga's biggest goal in life is to actually make a difference.
Patronus: Badger
Boggart: Her father
Amortentia: Rainfall and lilac, and a hint of leather
History
Mother: Thomasyn Faust (deceased)
Father: Baron Gauwyn Faust
Sibling(s): Elodie (younger sister, a Squib)
Worst Memory: Her husband being thrown from his horse
Best Memory: The birth of her sister
Social Standing: Her father is a baron, and she was married to the late Earl Raulin Hufflepuff, which makes her a countess.
Childhood:
Helga was born on a chilly September eve to her parents, Baron Gauwyn Faust and his wife, Thomasyn. For the first five years of her life, Helga happily spent every day by her mother's side, learning to sew and cook. She liked her mother's stories of her own childhood and how she met Helga's father and how they fell in love, even though she terribly disliked standing around a cooking pot all day or pulling thread through a pair of torn pants. When her mother got tired, as she often did quite early in the afternoon, she'd go to her father and he would teach her to read and to write, then take her on his large white stallion and ride through the meadow of their barony. It was a wild expanse of beautiful wilderness Helga would come to explore when she was older.
When she was eight-years-old, her mother became very ill. No one knew the cause of it until she fainted during another one of her stories. Helga panicked and called her father, who called for the town's medicine woman. There was nothing wrong with Thomasyn, but it was revealed that she was pregnant with another baby. Eight and one half months later, Helga's younger sister, Elodie, was born. Rather than being a jealous older sibling, starved for attention, Helga quickly became fascinated with the little blond baby and spent every possible moment around her. Her father's lessons in reading and writing continued until she advanced far beyond her twelve-year-old cousin Rythwar's progress. After this, her father began to teach her to duel with swords, and later with a wand.
Helga had always shown signs of magic, subtle or grand, but they were there. When Elodie turned five, her parents became worried that she wouldn't be able to use magic. Where Helga could charm a suit of armor to sing with just a twitch of her nose at age four, Elodie couldn't even make a feather levitate. It disappointed the Fausts a bit, but they didn't love her any less. Helga actually loved her more, often entertaining Elodie with colour-changing flowers for Beltaine and a singing mistletoe for Yuletide.
Grim news reached Helga's ears at the age of sixteen. Her cousin Rythwar had somehow upset a visiting Earl by 'philandering' with his youngest daughter, and because Gauwyn was the head of the family, the blame fell on his shoulders. As compensation, Helga's marriage to the Earl's eldest son, Raulin, was arranged. He was ten years her senior, and Helga was sure he was not interested in women.
So their marriage had come to pass, and for the next few years, Helga lived in Earl Raulin's household as his wife, the Countess Hufflepuff. While she couldn't really say her husband was a bad one or that the household wasn't pleasant or that she didn't enjoy her titles, she certainly felt her marriage was lacking something. Raulin was a kind enough man, though too taciturn for Helga's tastes, but there just wasn't any connection. The September she turned eighteen, a scandal revealed the truth the Helga: her husband was more interested in men. It only fazed her for a few weeks. After the flames died down and the whispers of court stopped, Helga found she was pregnant. Two months later, she miscarried a baby boy.
Two years later, after a childless marriage, Raulin was thrown from his horse while he and Helga were riding through the forest behind Hufflepuff Keep. He died from the impact, which sent Helga into a slight depression. Her mother had died from pneumonia three years earlier, so she sent for her father and her sister to live at Hufflepuff Keep while she and her three friends Rowena, Godric, and Salazar, began construction of the school that would come to be Hogwarts.
Like Salazar, she doesn't do much in way of building or organizing the castle, but instead helps to spread the word and keeps record of all the funds that go toward the school. She likes to go out personally to every town and speak, often attempting to drag Salazar with her, looking for any opportunity to pester him.
