Florence Nott sat down underneath one of the many trees surrounding the lake. She had a break between her last lesson and her next, thus resulting in her being here. The blonde looked out into the lake. When she first came here to Hogwarts, the lake had immediately become a favourite of hers. It was easy to see why. There was no lakes or ponds or fountains near where she had lived. Not to mention the fact that her elder brother had known of her desire to see an ocean. Fabian had therefore, came home with tales about the many creatures that lived in it. That had only spiked her excitement to come to Hogwarts.
Bringing her knees up to her chest, Florence caught sight of a couple making their way to the shade of the next tree. The Ravenclaw watched as the female laughed at some joke he had told. Inverting her eyes back to the lake, it was inevitable that her thoughts would go to Andros. She had known perfectly well that there wouldn’t be any outcome to their relationship. He was the son of a Baron, for Merlin’s sake. That had possibly been the one thing that she hadn’t given enough thought on.
But since she had committed herself to being with him, she was going through with it to the end. Resting her chin on her knees, Florence continued looking out into the lake. She found herself attempting to recall what the Professor had taught during the lesson. Anything to keep her mind from having to deal with the problem at hand. And that would be that his betrothed had walked in on them both. That hadn’t been a pleasant incident.

All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again. [/i][/right] There had always been a connection between Artemis and water, but it was hard to tell whether it was a magical bond or… something else. Either way, Artemis had always been fond of the element, and whenever she got the chance, she wanted to be near it. Well, in actually truth, she’d discovered that water was always close to her; it was in the air she breathed, the plants that grew, the people that lived. It was always there, and it almost felt like she could feel it, flowing eternally and never stopping. Water was life itself; without it, there’d be nothing. And so, that was why the lake was Artemis’ favourite place to be. The huge expanse of inky water was so tranquil and calm, a part from the occasional stirrings of the giant squid.
Now, Artemis Hearne was making her way down to the lake, her foot falls heavier then they should have been, despite the path to the lake being downhill. She’d had yet another household lesson and, as usual, she was fuming from the aftermath. The sixth year was furious that she had to take this lesson just because of her gender, while the boys got to do dueling. It was just utterly unfair and idiotic, and most of all, sexist. It seemed as if the school expected every girl to end up as the pathetic house-wife, her job being to bare and care for the children, and to keep the house in running order. For a start, if Artemis was ordered to do any of those things by a member of the opposite sex, she’d hex them within an inch of their life! By Merlin, she wanted to take up dueling, but it seemed as if that could never be; Professor Slytherin took the class. Now, there weren’t many people Artemis was actually uncomfortable around, but Salazar Slytherin was one of the minority. There was something in that man, some darkness that sent Artemis’ blood run cold. Artemis had always had a slight sixth sense about people, but it only came as an annoyance.
And so, the Hufflepuff tromped down to the lake, her face darkened with the scowl she wore and her thin frame tensed with rage. The ground became softer, wetter under foot, and she was soon by the lake side.
“Sexist, chauvinist pigs!” she yelled angrily, stamping her foot, raising her arms and punching the air. As usual, whenever she showed a burst of emotion around water, the water beneath her rose up and followed her arm strokes as she let out her fury.
The random movements of the water stopped though, as she began her calming exercise. Ever since she could remember, she’d trained herself to calm herself using her hydro-kinesis. She began to flow her arms in an orderly, almost dance-like fashion, the water rising up to reach her and follow her movements. As Artemis concentrated on the slow movement of the water, her emotions began to cool off and become still; her boiling anger evaporating. Then, a movement out of the corner of her eye made her jerk and stop suddenly, the water splashing back down into the lake. Her eyes were wide and goggled as she stared at the source of the movement. It was a girl, a Ravenclaw. She faintly recognized her, for she was of the same year as Artemis. What was her name? Flora? Fleur? Florence? Florence! That was it! The Hufflepuff lowered her extended arms and pushed back her embarrassment; she didn’t really like performing her wandless water magic in front of anyone.
“Um… Hi Florence… You OK?” Darn, was the immediate thought at how pathetic she’d just sounded. But, the Nott girl was sitting in a bunched up position with a troubled look on her face that puzzled Artemis.

A soft sigh escaped her. She had very successfully managed to avoid bumping into Morgana. She was quite good at doing that if she wanted to. But sooner or later this whole mess would need to be settled. She was only still in her sixth year, while the other two were in their last and final year. They could get married straight away after graduation. Where would that leave her then? Here at Hogwarts, heartbroken. Why couldn’t she have just fallen in love with someone of her own status? That would solve a whole lot of problems.
Burying her head for a few moments, Florence lifted it back up when she heard an angry yell. Now, if anyone was yelling, she was going to back off from that person as far as possible. However, her attention was distracted from the yell to the movements of the water. How very interesting. The blonde thought as she turned her head in search of the female causing this commotion. There she was, standing rather close to Florence. As Artemis looked like she was attempting to calm down, the Ravenclaw abandoned her thoughts of escaping from underneath her tree. Although, when she suddenly stared at her, Florence wondered if that had been a good idea.
Flo was mighty relived when Artemis spoke. She wasn’t being threatened or anything. That was good. “Me?” She spoke, for the first time since sitting down. “I should be asking you that, shouldn’t I?” The blonde said, smiling slightly. Then again, she had a slight inkling what might have angered the Hufflepuff. Florence had just come from the same class she had, after all. Household lessons were one of the classes she excelled in actually, considering that she had been helping her mother do it all her life. But naturally there would be some girls who would have liked to be in the dueling class instead of this.
