{{Seeing as this is set when magic is still a little primative, I made Artemis gifted especially in Hyro-kenises and water related magic. I'm a little obsessed with ATLA and waterbenders at the moment, you see! xPP}}

History
Mother: Aponi Hearne neé Cooper Father: Cain Hearne Sibling(s): None Worst Memory: When her mother and father left her at the convent when she was six. Best Memory: When she was four years old and she magically controlled water for the first time in her memory. Social Standing: Her family are gypsies of Romani decent, but she was brought up since she was six years old by nuns. Childhood: Artemis Grace Hearne was born on the winter solstice, the only child of a gypsy couple, Cain and Aponi Hearne. The birth was traumatic, and despite Cain’s mother’s best efforts, whom was a healer of sorts, Aponi was left unable to have anymore children. This was a blow, but Cain and Aponi were so grateful that Artemis was a healthy baby and overjoyed that they were parents. She was given her name because she was born on a full moon as well as being the shortest day of the year, which grandmother Hearne said made the baby special, and boy, was Artemis special.
The little girl grew up very happy for the first few years of her life, exploring her ever changing home as she and her family moved from place to place as most gypsies do. Artemis was very close to her family and all the rituals and little habits families have were none more evident than in the Hearnes. But it was when Artemis was a toddler that strange things began to happen. Aponi was watching her daughter as most mothers carefully do as the little girl played in a stream by their latest campsite. That’s when she did something extraordinary. Artemis, who had been trying to catch a minnow that kept darting between her legs, raised her chubby hands, and as she did, a ball of water from the stream levitated out of the main source with the minnow trapped within it. The tiny fish was trapped in a floating ball of water of which Artemis seemed to be controlling. Aponi didn’t know whether to be excited or horrified, and when the rest of the family found out, grandmother Hearne simply said, “Told you that girl was special.”
But the rest of the family was very, very worried. They knew they lived in superstitious times, and if anyone found out… So, they tried to keep Artemis’ powers a secret, but they only got stronger as Artemis became more in control of her mind and self. And then, someone found out. A squire saw Artemis levitating some water out of a well whilst her mother was collecting some. And that was how the Hearnes left their daughter at the convent. They knew that the squire, whom had become rather obsessed with tracking this ‘witch’ down, could not reach Artemis when she was in the safe keeping of the Church. Artemis was only six, but to watch her family ride away without her, to leave her life, broke her heart.
This said, though, the nuns were kind to Artemis and brought her up well. They taught her to read and write, to speak well and learn some manners. Artemis even grew to love them, and despite the Church being associated with witch hunts, the nuns thought Artemis’ gift was from God. As the years went by, Artemis began to gain control over her powers more; she could even move everyday objects now, but she was always strongest with water. Then, the day came when the nuns realized that if Artemis was to truly grow and flourish, she would need someone to help her understand her powers. And that was how Hogwarts burst upon Artemis’ now peaceful, rather boring life. The nuns sent an application to the newly formed institute, asking for a place for Artemis. A letter by owl was sent in reply. Artemis Hearne was accepted into Hogwarts.
Artemis is now attending her first year at Hogwarts, and although she misses the convent and the bustling nuns, she knows that this is where her future lies. The nuns promised to keep her powers a secret, but what ever happened to Artemis’ family, and, more importantly, that squire?...
